Re: Windows 10 Compatibility

I've been using an ICD-PX720, which I have been very happy with.  Similar to BobJohnsonJones, I had to replace my laptop.  We have been referring everyone we know to purchase the same digital recorder because of its ease of use and quality.  I'm very disappointed to not be able to find a compatible driver to download and keep it working.  I've tried to create the shortcut and use the compatibility settings for all previous windows versions, but none of them work.  It would be helpful to have Sony put something to inform their customers rather than having to go to Microsoft to find out the status of the Sony driver and why they don't support their products.  I have tried what Microsoft published, and none of the solutions were successeful for me, but here is the information from the Microsoft site:

We are sorry to let you know that there are no drivers released by the manufacturer supported on Windows 10 for Sony voice recorder model number ICD-PX720.

If you are unable to use the device on the PC, check if the same works in compatibility mode.

Step 1: Compatibility mode runs the program in the current version of Windows using the settings from previous version of Windows.

  1. Download the latest and most compatible device driver setup file from the manufacturer’s website or locate the downloaded driver setup file from the previously installed OS in your PC.
  2. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on Properties.
  3. Click on the Compatibility tab, check the box Run this program in compatibility mode for, select Windows 10operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation.
  4. Once the driver is installed in compatibility mode, restart the PC for the effective changes to take place.
  5. Check if the issue is resolved.

Step 2: You can also follow the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

  1. Press Windows logo key on the keyboard and type Run programs made for previous versions of Windows.
  2. Select the top most search result and follow from step 2 from the article Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows (Also applies to Windows 10).
  3. Check if the issue is resolved.
